Firstly, all of us at Abbey Farm, Stixwould would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers both old and new for the support you gave us last year and to wish you a happy and prosperous 2008.

It would be foolish to say that 2007 was a vintage year, however, despite the dreadful effect that Foot and Mouth and Blue Tongue had on the whole Livestock industry, we have managed to keep going! The weather also played its part in making life more difficult for both stock and arable farmers, the results of which are now being seen, with price increases appearing in shops and supermarkets up and down the country.

Life here never stands still though, and we are constantly thinking of new ideas to bring you, whilst maintaining a very high standard of meat at a realistic and sensible price. We aim to give you value for money and to this end we have decided to bring you the 'James and Lucy Barclay Box Scheme'. The idea is to deliver a mixed box of meat (of suitable size whether a single person, couple or family) to you on a fortnightly or monthly basis. Hopefully this will be a useful service to our customers as they will not have to carry so much heavy shopping home, or have to think about what to buy for supper every night!  You can let us know your special likes or dislikes before hand so that you don’t get any unwelcome surprises! Customers are of course always welcome to order meat and pick up from the farm as usual.

We have reduced the amount of Shows that we will be attending this year, however, this does not mean that our meat will not be available as widely as before. It can still be purchased from the Farm, Markets or via the Internet.

We have just about come to the end of our Autumn calving with some cracking calves being born by Market Stainton Freddy. This is Freddy's last year with us before he departs for a new life with John Harris, from Fiskerton in Nottinghamshire. He has done us well and sired some first class calves and he will long be remembered as the Bull that is pictured on the bottle of Lincoln Red Ale! Spring calving will be underway in April and the first lot of Lambing has started, whilst the Old Spots are farrowing all the year round and are continuing to produce a really special tasting pork joint!

Visitors to Abbey Farm, Stixwould are always welcome. Please do just give us a call to make sure there is someone here to show you round.

With our best wishes and renewed thanks for your custom.
